Writing Prompt: Texting and Driving

Texting and Driving do not mix.  It could seriously cost you your life.  If I was a congressman or women, I would compose a law that if you were caught texting and driving, you would either get a hefty fine.  The more times you get caught, the price will keep going up until eventually its to much so you have to go to jail.  I would also make each state have a statement about the dangers of texting and driving.  They would put into peoples heads that sending a text isn’t worth it if it can cost you your life.  Lastly I would put the campaign on televisions, computers, shopping malls, etc. in as many places I can to get the word out to everyone.  That is the law that I would compose that would be reasonable concerning texting and driving.

Drinking and driving and texting and driving are very similar to each other.  They both get your eyes off the road and not focused on the dangers ahead.  Another way they are similar is because it can cause you to lose sight of were you are going and could possibly crash the car.  Drinking and driving and texting and driving can cause death because you aren’t paying attention.  Even if it does not cause death, they both can cause you to swerve a lot and possibly get into a fatal crash.  Especially with an innocent driver.  Some ways drinking and driving and texting and driving differentiate is when you are drunk things become a blur.  Your eyes are on the road but you usually can’t see it very well.  While texting your eyes are hardly ever on the road, just every now and then.  But either way, being drunk or texting could most likely cause you your life.  Those are the comparisons and contrasts between drinking and driving with texting and driving.

I think that texting while driving has to be the most dangerous distraction on the road.  Some people do not know this, so they should be given instruction and courses in which it shows how many fatal car crashes occur every single day from texting and driving.  This program would put people on test courses texting and the put the same people on these text courses all while filming them.  It would prove and send out a message that texting and driving is not safe.  Then we would post them on TV and billboards to show that it is true.  There would also be instruction about different families who had to deal with the loss of losing someone from texting and driving.  It will prove to them that it is not worth the risk.  That is the plan I would do to reduce the use of texting while driving.

Why use CSS?

CSS is used when styling websites because:

1. You use CSS styles to format a page that separates content from presentation.

2. With CSS, it gives you great flexibility and control over the exact appearance of your page.

3. With CSS you can control many text properties such as bold, italics, underlining and text shadows.

4. You can use CSS to control the format and positioning of block-level elements in a web page.  These are p tags, h1 tags and div tags.

5. You can use CSS rules to define the presentation of the code reside in another file an external style sheet or in another part of the HTML document.

6. A CSS formatting rule consists of two parts—the selector and the declaration or in most cases, a block of declarations.

7. With CSS you can also control all your fonts and colors.

Characteristics of a successful website

1. What are the 3 main characteristics of a good website?

The 3 main Characteristics of a website are content information, appealing and professional in appearance, and usability and functionality.

2. Give 3 examples from each of the main characteristics that describe what makes a good website.

Content information: You want original content, articles written on a certain subject, reviews of a class of products, pictures of events or activities, etc.

Appealing and professional appearance: Graphics don’t have to be extra ordinary.  Color scheming is critical for your page.  Doing a childrens website should use bright primary colors.  A business webstie should use a monochromic colors.  This would be like tints and shades.

Usability and functionality:  The page or image should be able to load fast so the user doesn’t get impatient.  You also need the website to be able to navigate easy.  Also accessibility to the handicapped for those who can’t see.

Tips for Optimizing

Optimizing an image is a very important thing for your webpage.  There are three thing s you can do to make your image’s small and be able to open quicker.

First of all, Croping your Image.  This way, you are able to keep the dimensions small and take out what you don’t need.  Otherwise the photos will be unnecessarily large and will be a big download.  Only certain things need to be in the photo so the cropping tool works great.

Second of all, using as few colors as possible.  The more colors there are, the bigger your file and palette are going to be.  Also you could combine colors to reduce the size of the palette.  This way you will be sure that your image is browser safe, and only uses the minimum number of colors.

Lastly, putting your images through an optimization program.  Optimization programs are in photoshop where you are able to choose the images type and see what size the image will be.  The image that looks best this way will have the smallest size.  Comparing the image on how big it is a great thing so your image isn’t to big.

These are the three things that you should think about for optimizing a picture.  Whether for fun or for a website, it really helps when you have a small image.

Principles of Design

Balance:   You have one small ornament on one side of the room but the opposite side doesn’t have one.  To make it balanced, you must have a ornament on that opposite side to make it evenly balanced.   This metaphor applies to the principle because it is a visual balance and on a web page is the exact same thing.  Make sure one side of the page is the same as the opposite side.  That way both sides look much more balanced and cleaner.  Also it applies to the principle of balance because it puts elements in on either the web page or a room to create a certain mood in the room.  That is how this metaphor applies to Balance on a webpage.

White Space:  If you have been in New York city you know its very crowded.  Its hard to move around and you don’t have much space.  Especially for yourself.  This applies to the principle because you want the White Space on the website to be very spaced out, easier to read and see everything on the page.  Designs on a webpage that are cramped on a page are impossible to read and very crowded.  That is how this metaphor applies to White Space on a webpage.
